Bad Energy Projects Don't Make For Good Climate Action

Energy development must be a part of a sensible climate action program for Vermont. But if development is not done right, energy projects can worsen climate impacts, not mitigate them.

In Vermont, we have seen more than our share of bad energy projects. These projects have damaged our environment and degraded the natural resources that defend us from the impacts of a changing climate. The behavior of some developers has tarnished all developers, aroused the suspicion of many Vermonters, and dimmed our prospects for effective climate action.

Energize Vermont supports a five-step program for climate action and principles for responsible energy development. It is our view that all climate action must adhere to a single core principle: respect—respect for the environment, respect for sound economics, and respect for community values.
