The proposed wind turbines in Derby are still causing substantial debate. On Tuesday night the town’s select board officially voted against supporting the project, and VPR and others reported on the squabble around the project.

After tracking the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) bill nearly the whole legislative session, it appears the bill won’t make it through this year.
The struggle over wind project proposals started again this week in Newark, VT. Out of state firm Eolian Renewables, in partnership with foreign turbine manufacturer Nordex, is proposing to build a project covering three towns, with 35 turbines, roughly twice the size of the Lowell project.
The Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) bill passed the House this week with a vote of 91-46. The bill sets goals for the amount of renewable energy the utilities will need to purchase over the next four decades, and provides them with several options to achieve those goals.

Late last week we began to hear reports that Renewable Energy Vermont launched a TV and online ad campaign about how utility-scale wind was a great fit for Vermont. Folks opposed to the Lowell wind project keenly pointed out that perhaps this flashy ad campaign was timed to influence the Doyle survey.
Sort of slow week for renewable energy, although the usual characters made some news. Up in Derby the wind project was supposed to have a public hearing on Thursday night but it was postponed due to all the snow.
